The last two photos in this pool are taken 20 years ago when I first came to Japan. Apart from being an anime otaku, I was also a PC otaku where I would go back n forth to Akihabara to buy computer parts - and take them back because of a resource clash.

For a while, I didn't have a case as it took up too much space in our small apartment. Had a great time with thick IDE cables. No USB back then.

But then I decided to get a computer case to keep everything tidy - I remember carrying that case from Akihabara and then using it as a stool to sit on the train platform as it was so heavy.

The constant incompatibility between devices, clashes of resources, driver hell, etc etc and the amount of time needed to maintain a desktop PC made me decide never to get one ever again...

Fast forward 20 years - I suddenly find myself about to build a gaming desktop PC ;-)
Given that gaming/VR is going to be part of our business, I figured that I would learn more by building a system myself instead of buying a gaming laptop off the shelf.

I'm not a fan of large ATX cases so I went for an ITX board - the Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO and the processor I chose was the Ryzen 5 3600 - decent for what I need and pretty much what I could get hold of. PC components in Japan are difficult to get hold of due to the small PC market over here.

The rest of the build is made up of the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070, NZXT Kraken Z63, Corsair Vengeance LPX 64 GB, Crucial P5 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD and Fractal Design ION SFX 650G - although I did buy an ATX sized PCU by accident which would not have fit in the open styled case XTIA Xproto.

I'll let you know how the build goes and upload some videos to my YouTube Channel at tokyostormtrooper - or just search for Danny Choo ;-)

Did you build your own PC rig? If so what are your specs?
