After getting the Oculus Quest 2, curiosity then lead me to VR PC gaming over the Oculus Link.
We had an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 in the office which I'm currently experimenting with to establish what gaming laptop specs I need. The G14 has been upgraded to a 2TB SSD and 40GB of RAM. My benchmark is the VR game Half Life Alyx and Cyberpunk ;-)
However, to get VR working on the G14, a few hoops need to be jumped through. A few files including OVRServiceLauncher.exe in the Oculus Runtime folder need to be added to the Graphics Settings on the Windows machine and set to "High Performance."
AMD Radeon then needs to be disabled so that VR is processed through the NVIDIA GEForce RTX 2060.
Half Life Alyx performance is decent even on the lowest graphics settings on the G14 - the game is just incredible. However, I would prefer to play with higher detail and reduce the slight stutter that can happen from time to time. I can't get Squadrons to run in VR as the screen looks odd - prob need some tweaking somewhere.
So I've been looking at various laptops like the HP OMEN 15, Lenovo Legion, MSI GS66 and the new ASUS laptops released at CES recently, although I have no idea when they will be out. Naming conventions for PC laptops do confuse me which makes me wonder if folks get confused about Smart Doll when making a purchase decision.
Are you a laptop gamer? If so, which model do you have or recommend and what sort of games can it handle?
Many gaming laptops seem to be difficult to get hold of in Japan - I presume that the gaming community here prefers to game on a desktop or a console instead.
