Monday was a public holiday known as "Seijin no Hi" [成人の日[せいじんのひ]] or "Coming of age day" where those who have turned 20 are declared adults meaning they can now do SDV (Smoke, Drink and Vote) of they want.

Those celebrating would dress up in Kimono (for girls) or Hakama (for guys) although many guys can't be bothered (or do not have the means to bother) so they just wear a suit.

These photos were taken at Meiji Jingu where the Shin Seijin [新成人[しんせいじん]] or "New Adults" gathered together to take photos and listen to the local authorities who congratulate them and tell them that with great power comes great responsibility.

Is there any similar events in your neck of the woods?
