As mentioned yesterday, we gave her the name G02 for project management purposes. The “G” actually stands for “Genesis” which is the name I gave to this project of making face designs that resembled game characters. I didn’t want to give them too realistic features like nostrils because our Smart Dolls actually breathe through their ears.
Realistic dolls is not something we are good at so we will leave it to the pro’s of the other brands - what I have been aiming for is the game-like look and feel and I think our team has done an incredible job - a shout out our core dev team Sakashima Toya, Sergeant Chang , Kouda and Miss K - thanks for constantly putting up with my tweak requests. To get to this stage we made a zillion prototypes each with slight tweaks to each facial feature.
The underlying design principles stay the same though - keep contour bias, baby face and magic triangle which I talk about in an earlier post - these principles are applied to all of our own characters - does not apply to licensed characters though where we need to follow the original designs as close as possible - which is challenging! A lot of you liked Suzaku though ;-) “Genesis” means the beginning of a new line of semi-real face designs which will live along the anime styled characters that we will continue to roll out. This year I look forward to showing you anime styled Shiiki Ichinose (Idol Master) and C.C. from Code Geass and…. Genesis will be released before G01 (the other girl with long hair) as G01 needs some development of new technology to make paint masks as complicated as hers. Genesis’ paint masks are similar to the anime styled faces that we have done up until now which means it’s (slightly) easier. No ETA on launch but if all goes well then perhaps a December/Jan launch?
