Introducing a new line of footwear for Smart Doll - BioMecha Wear - a marriage between organic and mecha themes.
I've always wanted to design footwear that didn't rely on animal hide and yet retains the "organic" aspect of leather. At the same time, I love mecha design - so the only solution was to marry both themes to create an organic mecha design - BioMecha.
Working with designer Milpix, we have been prototyping designs that go well with our apparel line. While not impossible, our first design would be a challenge to make in leather but looks great when cast in vinyl.
The BioMecha Boot incorporates a design feature that uses the Muller-Lyer illusion - a well-known optical illusion in which two lines of the same length appear to be of different lengths. We use this method to make it look like there is a left and right boot where in fact, the boot is symmetrical. This means when one side is rejected during quality control, we can replace it without having the other side go to waste - which is what's currently happening to our traditional left-right pairs of footwear...
We plan to roll out BioMecha Footwear for humans too - because I would love to wear these myself ;-)
