As part of the process of developing a face up, we paint a base layer on the actual head and then do a few photoshop proposals to see what works and what doesn’t.
However, when we use photoshop for the proposals, we need to take into account the fact that the actual face curves away from the camera and need to properly replicate what a 3D line will look like on a 2D plane.
The top slot shows the final master. Bottom left square shows the left eye with base layer on the actual head - the right eye shows a photoshop proposal. The bottom right square shows the proposal painted on the actual head.
This sort of development cycle saves loads of time.
Weather in Tokyo should be better this October after the typhoon season so I should be able to get decent photos of the blank heads and start selling them.
Oh by the way - this girls final hair color is due to me Sunset Orange in this same style.
