Most companies in the hobby industry would hire a professional camera wo/man to take photos of products in front of a plain backdrop in a studio. They would then touch up the photos because the product is usually in the development stage known as "Decoration master."
I always found myself doing a google image search to look for real photos taken by real customers to see what products looked like in real life environments before making a decision to buy.
All photos that I publish are of the actual product and never a of a prototype. Its important to set expectations for potential customers as I know what its like to be trolled by product photos and find that what arrived through the post was something that looked completely different.
