There is no better day than today to announce the second installment of the Sunrise X Smart Doll partnership. Its December 5th today in Japan which is the birthday of Lelouch Lamperouge (ルルーシュ・ランペルージ ) - the main character of the hit anime series Code Geass. Therefore I would like to announce that Sunrise and Culture Japan are bringing you the Code Geass characters in Smart Doll form starting with one of my fave anime guys Lelouch Lamperouge. You can expect the other main 3 characters to follow soon after (or possibly the same time?!) but if you have a fave from the Code Geass series then let your voice be heard.
Another reason why its a good time to make this announcement is because this year is the 10th anniversary of Code Geass. To top everything off, the third season of Code Geass has also just been recently announced. 2017 is going to be a great year!
Due for release in the earlier half of 2017, Lelouch (also known as Lulu) will come with his Ashford Academy uniform, loafers, telescopic stand and of course the Geass Eye which you can swap out yourself. Just like Cowboy Bebop's Spike Spiegel Smart Doll, Lulu will also have at least two different facial expressions - one face will come as standard and the other as a pre-order limited edition.
Photo taken with Kenji Uchida - the chairman of Sunrise and one of the planners who worked on Code Geass. We were supposed to meet up first at Dubai Comicon but didn't get round to it so we got together just after we both came back to Japan. He came to our office (my house at the time) to see how we were in the midst of preparing to launch a product called Smart Doll.
This year I spoke to Uchida-san about working with Sunrise on a Smart Doll collaboration - and the rest is history. Apart from Cowboy Bebop and Code Geass, we are also working on a few other another Sunrise titles.
Anyway, if you have not done so already, follow my Instagram or the Smart Doll Twitter account to get the latest and greatest on progress of Lulu, the other Code Geass characters and other Sunrise licenses.
Our molds are made by mold maker Kamijo who's family has been making slush casting molds in Japan since 1907. The actual slush casting is done in our own facilities in Katsushika Tokyo.
QC, assembly and shipping is done at our Gotanda office in Tokyo. We also do planning, 3D sculpting and all development here. Folks who are interested in working for us on a full or part time basis or as a contractor should make themselves known with samples of their ninja skills online.
