Coming of Age Day Japan
Monday was a public holiday known as "Seijin no Hi" ] or "Coming of age day" where those who have turned 20 are declared adults meaning they can now do SDV (Smoke, Drink and Vote) of they want.
Those celebrating would dress up in Kimono (for girls) or Hakama (for guys) although many guys can't be bothered (or do not have the means to bother) so they just wear a suit.
These photos were taken at Meiji Jingu where the Shin Seijin ] or "New Adults" gathered together to take photos and listen to the local authorities who congratulate them and tell them that with great power comes great responsibility.
This years event at Meiji Jingu was a peaceful one although there is always news of some boys who would always get rowdy and show off their new powers - like the chap below who runs on stage.
Meiji Jingu - at this time of year folks are still gathering to the shrine to give their beginning of year prayer.
The rest of this post highlights some of the Shin Seijin in their Kimono or suits. Some folks own their Kimono but most are rented. At this time of year, many hairdressers will have signs to let folks know that they do "Kitsuke" of Kimono - the Kimono is rather difficult to put on so one can go to a hairdresser who will help you put on and tie the belt and bow at the back - for a fee.

...and so did some folks who thought it would be a great opportunity to remind everybody that they should not be wearing fur.
But how about fake fur? Is it OK to wear fake fur or is it just as bad because they look similar? What are your views?
I personally don't wear fur but I was slammed for the fake fur attached to the hood of a coat for Mirai.
