Asakusa in the Winter
Still got a small backlog of Japan in the Winter photo posts. Today we take a lookie at Asakusa - a must visit for anybody visiting Tokyo who wants to experience a more traditional Japan. Even though much of Asakusa was flattened in the huge earthquake in 1923 and again in the 1945 bombings, the area has always returned to being a lively and bustling town as it once was back in the Edo period.
There is much to see including the Kaminarimon gate where the big red lantern is, Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Street, Denpoin Street, Hanayashiki Street, Azuma Bridge and a load of shotengai - and of course Tokyo Sky Tree is in the area too.
The easiest way to get to Asakusa is by getting off at Asakusa station. The map below marks where Kaminarimon is.
