Filling up the humidifier with water. A humidifier is called Kashitsuki 加湿器] and are used in the Winter for many reasons over here.
One of the reasons is that most of the heating is provided by an air conditioner which really dries out the air leaving ones throat in a mess and skin dry.
Our humidifier is filled with about 2 liters of water in the morning and runs out in the evening - time to fill up again. It also comes with a little pot which you can fill with aroma oils that give the room a herbal smell.
It also comes with settings for "throat" and "skin" but not exactly sure what the difference is as the steam looks the same ^^;
This actual humidifier has appeared in an episode of Kanon - cookies for those who can remember which episode.
Some Kanon action below.
