Finally finished my final calculations on my expenditure for my Japan trip back in August. I myself am surprised at how much I spent in general though I'm not at all surprised at how much I spent on merchandise itself. Anyway check out the full break down on my blog.

You can also check out coverage of my merchandise here in Part 1 and Part 2.

Though to keep it simple, I spent ¥516,423 on merchandise alone.

This expenditure does not include airfare and accommodation as I had already budgeted those beforehand and paid many months in advance. This report only covers what I spent in Japan only.

I'm not surprised by the amount of your expenditures, I'm surprised by the quantity

how did you manage to get all your stuff back by plane ? did you have to pay any additional charges or taxes?

how many boxes did it represent?

That's about $5000 Aussie dollar back when you went, when the exchange rate was high....
For me ~_~ with the current crappy exchange rate, I exchanged $4000 AUD, now = 250,000Yen...

I regret not doing it 4 months earlier....

Wow, that's a lot of stuff to bring back. I can only profess to spending a quarter of that at most on my last Japan trip.

It's interesting how there's days where you barely spend, and then days where you break the bank. :P

Impressive, really. 514,000 Yen, that's 110,000 Czech Korunas, and that's about 4 months' worth of average salary in Czech. Oh my... *faints*

Nice! :P

I spent a total of about $10,000AU (at the time 100,000 yen) when I went to Japan for a month in December 07.
But that amount included what I spent on accommodation, food and so on. But I know a huge proportion was spent on buying preowned figures, doujinshi, electronics and so on. But yeah, it sounds a lot like what you did.
I also have a bunch of pics too, but haven't uploaded them to a blog or anything.

I recall mailing back 2 boxes about 40kg worth of manga and novels (from book off), about 6-7 boxes full of figures, about 3 voice alarm clocks, two bags full of garage kits from WHF and one box of C73 doujinshi. I also got a 60GB Japanese PS3 when they still had them in stock (lucky!).

I should upload some pictures one day but my blog is currently only written in Japanese.

I think I spent my entire years savings in that trip. It was a great experience. Although I ran out of money by the end :D.

Any Aussies here that want to be friends feel free to contact me.
I can't seem to find any other hardcore Aussie otakus.
