Pretty awesome, I especially like how it opens up with the lens, kinda transformer like. Just a question a High end compact camera is it similar to a regular compact camera where you can just point and shoot? Or do you have to autofocus?
Automatic settings are included but manual gives you more control of how the photo ends up looking.
This ability gives you so much control to how the image turns out, especially for the macro shots with a very small depth of field. I have to shoot these for my photography class...Fun!
I LOVE the lens flap! NICE quality!
Danny, why is this article dated 01/03/2009? 0.0
I was gonna say the same thing! LOL
Fixed ^^;
the biggest problem with me is that I hate having to carry a camera around. So I do take some pictures with my cell phone camera (2 megapixels<- epic fail) but I don't like lugging my actual Digital camera around
Awesome to see a compact camera like that... Will go to those places on Flickr if I can find them... Also, will add you as a comrade on flickr!!!!!
showing hubs this camera review huhuhu not sure when we'll get but a 5 out of 5 dolphins is goot lol!
wow, that little camera is very impressive. the quality of those picture are awesome and i like the design, it reminds me of one of those old film cameras.
Hmm... nice digital pictures with that camera. I'm impressed. I seldom take pictures tho, and I personally don't like being snapped.
So that picture we saw will be the only time we'll see you in person? We're just gonna have to associate you as the walking pantsu all the time then...
danny you're torturing me by showing that mousepad again. /want >.<
Wow, it has soft focus on this compact digicam, gonna check it out soon, the price is very yummy too ^_^
What a beautiful camera! I've been contemplating on getting a compact camera of my own because lugging around my DSLR is sometimes a bit much :(
良いな、そのカメラ。。。^_^
As much as I love Canon, this looks like my next camera.
What is the typical resolution of the pictures taken, is there grainy pictures
EVERYDAY my CF cards are nearly full....all of them - i better start offloading them onto my PC. Very cool lens cover Danny - DO WANT (if i had a compact that is)
I no longer like my canon powershot A590 now. Me sucking at taking pictures helps contribute to that too though.
I'm on exactly the same boat. When I purchased the camera I was all about wanting to take great photos, but now it just sits collecting dust because I suck at taking photos (little time to learn) and I'm too socially-awkward to randomly pull out a camera and snap a photo.
Ever since I used a Panasonic Lumix camera at a LAN party I've been keeping an eye on them. All of them seem pretty nice to me. I might pick up a lower end version for $150-ish. Would it be worth it or a waste of money?
go grab those high end one, low end one u better choose Canon A590.
Never had anything better than compact point and shoots, even with the number of photos I've taken. If I was smart I'd invest the money into a decent camera and end up with photos that don't make me slap my palm into my forehead when I look at them years later.
Wow, nice camera.. i like the thumbnail view and the oppai mousepad^^
I just need a compact one. I can't take my Nikon every time I want :(
おお〜。ハイエンドコンパクトカメラいいですね! 一眼レフは「もってくぞー」と準備しなければいけないけれど、 ハイエンドコンパクトカメラならかばんに入れておけそう。いざというときに暗いところも綺麗なのはgood
What would be the Sony and Canon equivalent of this lovely piece of equipment?
Canon G9/G10 although the Canon is much more bulkier, about the same size as a small DSLR without the lens. although imo the lumix uses a the better lens. don't think sony has an equivalent model though
Sony compact aint good enough to challenge them. The more equivalent one will be Canon G10 and Nikon P6000 (Nikon one is the worst among them).
Not sure about Sony, but Canon's is definitely the G10. I really enjoy my little (O.K. not so little) G10, but I do envy the Panny's fantastically fast lens, low light performance and 24mm at the wide end. That being said, as a companion to a Rebel XT, I actually like the size of the Canon in my hand. I've really been impressed with what Panasonic's been able to do with it's cameras. They've certainly become competitive with Canon and Nikon in terms of both quality and performance and deserve to be taken seriously. BTW, if you're deciding between these two cameras, ignore the megapixel difference. Though the Canon boasts 14.7 vs the Panny's 10.1, they both far exceed what the lenses are actually capable of and my 8 megapixel Rebel will leave both in the dust.
congratulations on the camera. love the shot with the tissue covered figures, and the shot with cheerleader Mikuru.
btw I'm guessing you use the food setting on the SCN mode very often. ^^ I have mine set to baby most of the time. ^^;
Never used the SCN mode before - not really sure what it does ^^;
just switch the dial over to scn, then the camera let's you choose some preset settings. I guess it's kind of like the portrait landscape macro sports and night mode of our eos 450d. Check out the food setting there. You might want to try the beach setting when you go out on vacation as well. ^^
That's pretty good camera for a compact, have never really play around with a high end compact before, but the ISO400 shots looks great
I like the lens craft...it's pretty nifty so that you don't have to manually take it off...My first digital camera is a Lumix DMC-FX33 which I bought a few months ago. Not as nice as the the LX3, but I like the simple controls and it's good enough for a beginner like me...
WOW nice..... i was thinking of getting this or a Canon Prosumer G10 but in the end i held back. Wanted to get a Nikon D90 instead..... Anyway LX3 is one of the great Compact Camera in the market, the downside is that its zoom range and pixel aint as good as G10. But at least u get a better lens with HD movie recording. All Hail Panasonic, and all hail high-end compact camera.
You zoom with your foot!
That pixel difference means nothing. Usually 7 or more megapixels is just enough. 10+ megapixel you'll need, if you want to print a poster.
Interesting... I hope someday I have the money to buy this and a full dslr.
wow, the macro mode does look impressive.
I have the same problem with my dslr, the photos look better on the screen ^^;; And I love the innovative lens cap =o I'm finding it annoying having to take the cap off every time I decide to take a photo >.<;; Great camera Danny~
Whoa... Lumix is now another fave for me ^___^
Excellent! I have been looking into getting a camera, getting fed up of using a camera phone, especially when I tried to take pictures outdoors at night, it really sucks, I was looking into getting a SLR camera but hate the size because I would be doing a lot of traveling next year. This is defo a solution :D
i like that lens!
Me needs to learn moar on cameras... =.="
That looks awesome~ I'm a fan of Canon, but I don't think I've seen Panasonic's before.
I saw some sample pictures from camera and it looks good. The impressive low light pictures are what's attracting me to this camera... but I don't know if this camera is even available here.
Looks and sounds awesome. Yeah, after reading all the reviews & comments of the high end compact digicams previously, looks like the Panasonic Lumix LX3 is the best choice. I'm looking to get one myself, hopefully before the end of the year. Although I've been browsing some of the local camera stores and they all seem to be out of stock. And I was wondering why you ordered an extra lens cap in your news article the other time. Now I understand. I have learned.
the lens cap is awesome, very original the design of the camera is definitely superb great pictures too, seems that finally there is another compact model matching Canon Ixus ^^
wow the LX3 looks heavy duty. camera these days getting more and more powerful
Looks great, think I can recommend this to my Dad, he's kinda looking for something small yet powerful.
Nice article! I didn't know that they sell such self retaining lens caps, seems a very convenient thing to have.
This looks... incredible! I've been looking for a good camera for under $600 that can handle low-light AND do great macro. I believe you've just found it for me, my good sir. I'll have to check to see what its video is like.
暗い所にもはあんなに綺麗のは凄いですね。いいカメラ欲しいけど、やっぱ一眼レフの方がいいんですかね
一眼レフはいいけど、でっかい。
Wow, the photo quality is very nice. I think the flap design is a very interesting idea too, certainly helps distinguish it from the norm.
I'm always snapping pictures, even if it's just capturing my cat in a cute pose. When I have a job I'd love to look into getting a camera like this. I don't feel the need for a big expensive dslr, but I think something like this would work really well for me.
I didn't know that it was as good as this. I am thinking of buying it. Hmm...
Most awesome. Mayhaps I will save up for it next year. Always wanted my own camera (always borrowed my folk's). Is it more expensive to repair the old camera than buy a new one, Sir Danny?
Yeah, Lumix is good brand. I have DMC-FZ7. It is a combination of SLR and compact camera, and has enough features for hobbyist. But it doesn't have slot for external flash...
hi everyone! i know this is really illrelevent, but can someone who uses email with @softbank.ne.jp tell me rather this email can recieve emails from hotmails? its really urgent please help me!
